Citi Rewards 8 mpd at DFS, Tangs & Takashimaya

From now till the 3rd of May, Citibank Rewards CC is giving 20X points per dollar spent at these places. 8 miles per dollar is a respectable amount to earn for purchases that you’ve been eyeing. Conservatively, this promo represents a ‘rebate’ of 16% (8 Miles x 2c). I value the rebate at 40%. Let’s examine the promo in greater detail.

Items under $1,000

DFS is the one I’m most interested and have the greatest knowledge in. Unbeknownst to many, there is a DFS right in the middle of town. It’s called T Galleria and it’s located at 25 Scotts Road. Where’s that? The “ah” moment is when I tell you that it is right opposite Far East Plaza.

You don’t have to be a traveller to shop at DFS. In fact, GST has already been priced in. This is a fantastic opportunity to snap up luxury products under a $1,000. What I like about shopping at DFS is that you can be absolutely certain that you will get your 20X (8 mpd). The major categories are:

  • Beauty and fragrances
  • Fashion & Accessories
  • Food & Gifts
  • Watches & Jewelry
  • Wines & Spirits

Here are some shop names that might pique your interest:

Pro Tip: They sometimes conduct sales offering 10% to 50% off the original price.

If you’re at the airport, it’s the same, just without the GST. Be careful not to shop at Shilla Changi or any other shops not baring the DFS logo as they’re not under DFS group.

The brands offered there look like the typical ones at other departmental stores (albeit slightly more ‘atas’). Therefore, I would feel quite safe charging to the card. That being said, it is good practice to confirm with the CSO at Citibank if you’re unsure. Click here for a list of brands being offered.

In Takashimaya, there are typical brands, and then there are luxury boutiques like Hermes and Sincere Fine Watches. I scrolled through the forums and did not manage to find a satisfactory answer as to what constitutes a ‘departmental’ spend. Thus my safest bet will be those stores that accept Taka vouchers. Click here for a list of stores that accept Taka vouchers. I can’t be sure if these stores give 20X points, so don’t come running to me with your pitchforks if you don’t get credited with the points!

Asking what the MCC (Departmental) is at the cashier often yields confusing answers so I wouldn’t count on that. Click here for more on Citibank Rewards MCCs.

Do take note that this 20X promo caps at $1,000 per statement cycle. This gives you about a max of $3,000 (3 cycles) if you already have the card. And as always, click here to read the full T&Cs.

I try to feature promos that I think are fantastic mile earning opportunities, so follow this blog if you want to be updated to the best promos!

Happy Shopping!
